Mitre 10 MEGA Summer Series

This page gives full information on the Summer Race Series, to enter go to our Events Calendar HERE and find a round you wish to enter.

Classes

See the supplementary regulations for the event for full class descriptions and details.  The classes running for the series are:

  • GT Cup. GT-A and GT-B (National Race)
  • IB Cup (National Race)
  • SF Cup (Clubmans Race)
  • RS Cup (Clubmans Race)

Break-out Time Penalties

These apply to GT-B, IB, SF and RS Cups. This means that if you run too fast a time penalty is applied for each lap.  Drivers who break out regularly will be required to move to the next fastest class.

GT-A/GT-B Split in GT Cup:

GT Cup has now been split by breakout times, into GT-A, and GT-B respectively.  Drivers will now nominate whether they are competing for ‘A’ or ‘B’ class points, and new breakout times have been added to show the separation for each sub-class.  Competitors will accumulate points according to their respective sub-class.  The highest points scorer in each sub-class will win the trophy for their sub-class, and the highest overall points scorer will win the class trophy outright.
For Example: if the GT-B winner happens to be most consistent with the most GT points total, then that driver will win the GT Cup outright as well as their sub-class.

Break out times are as follows:

Race ClassManfeild CCA: Break Out Penalty For Lap Times
RS CupFaster than 1:30:00
SF CupFaster than 1:25:00
IB CupFaster than 1:20:00
GT Cup GT-BFaster than 1:15:00
GT Cup GT-ANo breakout

No In-Car Lap Timing
In-car lap timing devices are now prohibited in the GT-B, IB, SF and RS classes. Data loggers, lap timers, countdown timers, cell phones or any similar device that provides live information to the driver must not operate.  Their displays must be removed or disabled during official qualifying and races.  No pit-to-driver communication is permitted during qualifying and races. Failure to comply will result in the loss of all points accumulated in the meeting.
This rule has been introduced due to erratic and dangerous driving exhibited at previous rounds as drivers attempt to slow their lap time to stay under breakout and avoid a penalty.  We want you to go hard and then go home safely, so lap timing will no longer be allowed in IB, SF and RS classes.

Race Formats

All classes have a 10 minute qualifying session and four races.

To fit qualifying and all these races within a one-day race meeting is a challenge.  Whilst most classes run individually the Car Club does from time to time merge classes if entrant numbers do not justify an individual race.  This will be announced on race day, with no more than two classes running together at any one time.  Merges will be done dependent on average lap times of the vehicle class so that vehicle speeds are safely matched.

Licensing

All classes in the series are run under a National Race permit, so C1 or C2 Grade motorsport licence is required for all classes.  See the Get A Race Licence page HERE for full details.

Vehicle Safety Requirements

For RS, SF and IB Cup, vehicles must comply with Schedule A Safety.  Road cars are permitted. Roll protection such a roll bar or a full roll cage is recommended but not mandatory.  As a minimum the vehicle must have installed a minimum 0.9kg dry powder twin-strap fire extinguisher, mounted using minimum M6 size bolts and nuts, within reach of the driver.  All cars competing in the series must have a Competition Vehicle Log Book.  It is easy to get from MSNZ and costs $30.

For all other classes vehicles must comply with Schedule AA Safety, or regulations as per their specific class.

Clothing

Note that clothing requirements have changed due to new Clubmans Race rules.  There are now both clubmans and national race classes running withing the series.  Each has different clothing requirements so familiarise yourself with the amended rules HERE.
